Here are the lyrics of the song I mentioned about in my previous post. Please feel free to complete the '?' parts of the translation and any other corrections that you can notice. Translation attempted by Dhruv.
Mann yeh sahib ji
This heart, Sir
Mann yeh sahib ji
This heart, Sir
Samjhe ishare dheere dheere
Surkhiyan hai hawaon mein
O kaise hazuri ji
Oh what hazuri(?)
Mann yeh sahib ji
This heart, Sir
Jane hai sab ji
Knows everything
Knows everything
Phir bhi banaye bahane
Yet makes up excuses
Naina nawabi ji
Yet makes up excuses
Naina nawabi ji
These eyes, O King (?)
Dekhe hai sab ji
Dekhe hai sab ji
See everything
Phir bhi na samjhe ishare
Yet don't understand gestures
Phir bhi na samjhe ishare
Yet don't understand gestures
Mann yeh sahib ji
This heart, Sir
Haan karta bahane
Makes excuses
Makes excuses
Naina nawabi ji
These eyes
Na samjhe ishare
Don't understand gestures
Na samjhe ishare
Don't understand gestures
Samjhe ishare dheere dheere
[It will] understand those gestures gradually
Naino ko dheere dheere
Those eyes, gently
Jiya ko dheere dheere
Jiya ko dheere dheere
That body, gently
Bhaayo re saibo
Bhaayo re saibo
bhaayo(?) O madam..
Dheere dheere
Dheere dheere
Over time (gradually)..
Begana dheere dheere
Begana dheere dheere
Loved ones, over time
Apna sa dheere dheere
Like us, over time
Like us, over time
Lage re saibo
they ___? , Madam..
they ___? , Madam..
Surkhiyan hai hawaon mein
The news is in the air
Do dilon ke milne ki
Do dilon ke milne ki
About the union of two hearts
Ha haan arziya hai nazaron mein
Ha haan arziya hai nazaron mein
Yes, there are yearnings in those glances
Lamha yeh tham jane ki
This is the moment to stop
Lamha yeh tham jane ki
This is the moment to stop
O kaise hazuri ji
Oh what hazuri(?)
Yeh lab dikhaye
that this moment shows
Chupi laga ke bhi
Chupi laga ke bhi

addicted to this song...thanks for the translation!
ReplyDeletewhat language is this song? it does not sound fully hindi(I'm not indian)
My pleasure. Btw, it's Hindi. Probably with a tinge of Punjabi :) I'm not good at Hindi too :P
ReplyDeleteIt does not sound punjabi.. sounds more rajasthani to me but I may be wrong! Some of the translation is very nice and I noticed errors elsewhere..:
ReplyDeleteNaina nawabi ji
These eyes, O King (?)- These eyes Kingsly(or King like).
Samjhe ishare dheere dheere
They understand the gestures gradually
Naino ko dheere dheere
Those eyes, gently
Jiya ko dheere dheere
That soul, gently
Bhaayo re saibo
starts liking the maiden
Begana dheere dheere
The estranged, over time
Apna sa dheere dheere Lage re saibo
seems like our own, over time, O maiden
Ha haan arziya hai nazaron mein
Yes, there is a pleading in the air
Lamha yeh tham jane ki
for the moment to come to a still
O kaise hazuri ji
Oh how my lord
Yeh lab dikhaye
these lips show
Chupi laga ke bhi
even through their silence
Gazab hai yeh dhaaye
an astonishing effect!
Thankiu i was looking for the translation to this song.
ReplyDeletei loved it.
Ironically, i cant listen to a song and not become curious what it says, and i keep listening to hindi songs when i don't even understand hindi.
This langauge amazes me .

ReplyDeleteFirstly, AWESOME song!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to make some corrections..
Mann yeh sahib ji
Haan karta bahane
Naina nawabi ji
Na samjhe ishare
Samjhe ishare dheere dheere
[It will] understand those gestures gradually
this part is wrong in every lyrics page I've seen so far.
The male voice just picks up from the last words of the female voice: "samjhe ishaare". The actual paragraph starts from "dheere dheere" only.. so it is wrong to translate two different lines as one to mean "[it will] understand those gestures gradually"
here's what it should look like:
"..Mann yeh sahib ji
Haan karta bahane
Naina nawabi ji
Na samjhe ishare
dheere dheere
Naino ko dheere dheere
Jiya ko dheere dheere
Bhaayo re saibo.."
Thanks, Ajay for the corrections.
ReplyDeleteawesome song, just fell in love with it, got some other version of translation: i just love it when the male voice just picks up from the last words of the female voice: "samjhe ishaare" enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteMaster, though this heart
Knows everything,
It still makes up excuses
Eyes are princely,
Though they see everything,
Yet they don't understand the gestures
Slowly
Slowly the mistress felt
Good to eyes as well as heart
Slowly,
The stranger became known
There is a headline in the air
Of two hearts meeting
There is a pleading in the eyes
For the moment to pause right here
Master,how do these lips
Are wondrous,
Even when they are silent?
its actually rajastani n hindi mixed n thanks for the translation ive been dying to try 2 understand wat it means but i couldnt even thou im indian lol
ReplyDeletesuperb song...........
ReplyDeleteHere's my translation of the above lines, with a different take on saaheb, nawab, huzoor, etc.
ReplyDeleteThe mind, which is the master, knows everthing but doesn't acknowledge (gives excuses). The eyes, which are princely, see everything but claim they don't understand anything. However, gradually, the eyes and (thereby) the heart understand and are conquered by the loved one. Gradually, in fact there's a feeling that the loved one is one's own! (Now scene change.) There's news in the air that the two hearts have met. The two pairs of eyes desperately want the moment to freeze. At that point, the poet claims, those lips are in fact the truly masterly, in the sense they can wonderfully convey so much even while keeping perfectly mum.
Now, how beautiful is that for poetry! Just love it!

ReplyDeleteThis is not punjabi for sure. When you listen to the enunciation of the words like "Jaane", "Naina" etc, they are typical of Rajasthan. I know this has been stated by many in the above comments but the enunciation of these words are typical of the Rajasthan and Mewar area. Does anyone know what Raag this song is being sung in?
ReplyDeleteLovely song 😍😘
